what pedals do you use with your guitar?

I just bought a Hardwire TL-2 Metal Distortion pedal but it isn't doing what I want it to. I want to be able to get that really raw sound but this thing makes it sound like a video game song or something Evil or Very Mad

.

I need suggestions please. Oh, and my amp is a Peavey Vk 212. Thanks!

Boss Metal Zone is a decent pedal, but it has quite limited options IMO, although you might want to create the sound you're describing.

I used a Hot Head, quite a sucky pedal, but I was a sucky guitarplayer so it fit me Razz

Check out ebay, you can find a metal zone pedal for less than $100.

Sorry, I just replied to the thread title without actually reading the posts.

First off, are you sure you can't get a good distortion out of your amp alone? I looked at its specs and it doesn't seem bad at all.

The metal zone is alright as long as it's teamed up with a good amp. On its own or through a cheap amp you'll get that same video game sound with it. This is just my experience with it, though. I've never had one myself, but the other guitarist in my band has one. I like the fact that thanks to the quite decent amp modeling my GT-8 sounds good even when plugged directly to the PA. It does cost quite a bit more and is a lot heavier to carry around than a metal zone though. Wink

Finally, don't overdo the amount of distortion / gain. High gain amps and pedals like the metal zone offer way more distortion than you'll ever need and sound like crap at max distortion. If you're having trouble finding a really heavy and beefy sound the problem is often too much distortion. Start off really low and raise the amount of distortion until you get to a point that sounds like it could be enough. Then play around with the other settings like EQ, presence, resonance for some time and only then go back to tweaking the amount of distortion if you find it wasn't right after all. The truth is that all amps will sound better with the volume cranked and if you're unable to play really loud (which you are pretty much everywhere besides on gigs and rehearsals) you'll just have to settle with a bit weaker sound.

Boss ME-50. It has most of the Boss sounds loaded plus the compressor, gate and tuner. This is my church rig. I have a valve state 150 that I rarely use.

TRUE about Boss. our guitarist has teh GT8 also sounds great when you know waht you are doing. I personally own a Digitech GNX 3. am playing around with it now. It can be easy to over work an effect though.

My uncle found one of those at a yard sale for $20 and gave it to me. The only problem is the power cord quit working so I need to replace it.
