| Funny, I'm not even sure if that's the right title. Grand-Uncle or Great-Uncle? Whatever, we called him Uncle Bill. He truly was a great man. a B-17 pilot over Germany in World War II, he was shot down behind enemy lines and spent 2 years in a German POW camp. My dad's parents divorced when he was 8 or so, and Uncle Bill raised my dad like he ws his own. He was such a positiv influence in his life, and mine. I'm not gonna lie and say he was the MAIN reason I joined the Army, but it was part of the decision. What I remember most about him is the motor home. He and his wife, Aunt Gwen, had a motor home, and every christmas they would drive it to our house, and me and my brother would always want to play in it. He wa such a sweet man. I haven't had much contact with him in the past seven years. I called him right before I deployed in 2004, and we talked for a little while. He said how proud of me he was, and that meant a LOT. His mind had started to go in the past few years, and he was getting mroe and more frail, and just old in all ways. When my Mom would visit him, over the past year, he smost times wouldn't recognize her. She tells me, though, that when she talked about me, he would smile. I can't believe he remmebered me when his mind was gone, and I never called him. I know that most likely, we wouldn't have gotten much out of it, but still. God, I miss him. I wish I could have seen him one more time. It's ok, though. He's back with Aunt Gwen again, and wether thats a good thing for him or a bad thing, we're not sure. lol Rest in Peace, Wilbur "Uncle Bill" Meyer. Beloved husband, uncle, soldier. |

| Sorry to hear that. Sounds like he was an amazing man.
And yes, it's great-uncle. |
