I've started to take an interest in these again.
I had two pink-toe tarantulas when I was a kid:
I can see getting a Mexican red knee, for something thats nice:
And part of me wants to find some kind of aggressive old-world spider, like a Cobalt Blue:
These things are absolutely insane.

There's one thats even worse:
Quote :
Rangoon Mustard Tarantula
This is the most aggressive tarantula I ever owned. I consider this to be the Pit Bull of tarantulas. It would frequently throw itself against the side of its tank when it detected my presence and made a very distinct hissing noise (hence I gave it the name of Hissing Sid). Should most definitely NOT be handled. Not for the beginner!

I'm kind of wanting to get a Mexican Blonde. They're supposed to handle really easy.

You should get a Greenbottle Blue. It's a tarantula that looks like it just killed a clown.

You'd like Avicularia Versicolor.

Definitely agree on the P. Metallica. I think more people would understand the idea of tarantulas being pretty or beautiful if they saw some of the more colorful species. Orange Baboon tarantulas would fit that bill too, even though they're evil.

Just picked up a Chilean Rose Hair.
Mine still has some growing to do, but its really docile, and seems healthy.
I almost bought a Cobalt Blue, but common sense told me that would make a bad dorm room tarantula. It was fairly young, and seemed only slightly jitterish, but it would get pretty nasty as it got older.

I like this thread too. I have had pet Tarantulas in the past. I used to live in So Az for 10 years. But many people don't realize that these spiders live in the colder areas too. I found one crossing the rode in Northern Cal=instant pet while I was lving in the dorm. Most of the guys in the dorm (and lady visitors) enjoyed holding 'Harry'. We would let it crawl all over us. That darn spider had an uncanny knack of always stopping on everyone's jugular .
I witnessed a rare occurrence once. Two tarantulas were fighting when a tarantula hawk come down and killed one. Kinda freaked me out. This was back when I was a teen.

Held him for about 2 seconds when I had to move him out of his tank to let his substrate dry out. I'll wait a while to hold him again, since I'm pretty sure I've freaked him out enough today.

I'm thinking its actually a female (no mating hooks).
But anyway, she's eaten twice in the last 2 days. Thats a lot for a G. Rosea.
