Discovering Our Spiritual Gifts Vide
PostSubject: Discovering Our Spiritual Gifts   Discovering Our Spiritual Gifts Icon_minitime1Thu Mar 04, 2010 1:30 pm

The following is an outline I used to teach out elders about Spiritual Gifts... thought some of you would enjoy it as well. S

Spiritual Gifts

Why should elders care about spiritual gifts?

The Bible has a lot to say about spiritual gifts

* Romans 12: 3-9
* Eph 4: 2-12
* 1 Cor. 12: 1-31
* 1 Peter 4: 10-11

What is Spiritual Gift?

A spiritual gift is a special attribute given by the Holy Spirit to Every Member of the body of Christ according to God’s Grace for use within the context of the Body.

Facts about Spiritual Gifts:

* … not natural abilities/talents, although God may certainly sanctify/enhance a natural talent with a spiritual gift.

* …not a Fruit of Holy spirit
* …can be abused
* …received, not achieved or chosen.
* …uniquely fashioned for you. (no two are identical… diversity/harmony)
* …useless apart from love.
* …equal in importance

Why discover your spiritual gift(s)?

* Clarity of purpose.
* Helps us know what we should NOT do.
* More effective service.
* Appropriate commitment to Ministry
* Helps overcome feelings of inferiority and false guilt.

How do we discover our spiritual gifts

1) Gift Tests/Inventories

Rick Warren’s “S.H.A.P.E.”

S = Spiritual Gifts

H = Heart (passions)

A = Abilities

P = Personality

E = Experiences

What’s your THING?

I’m successful at it.

I’m instinctive about it.

I could do it for hours.

I feel fulfilled by it

People tell me I’m good at it.

2) Relationally/Experientially

Acts 4:34-37 “4There were
no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or
houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need. 36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means Son of Encouragement), 37sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the
apostles' feet.”

What should I do once I know what my gift is?

* Dedicate
* Develop
* Study/Pray
* Fellowship
* Obey

Questions/Discussion
