Twisting Scripture to conform to a political ideology is pure blasphemy.

Did you read the article?

Yes. The Bible is perfectly fine as it is; we don't need a censored version.

Are you sure you read the article? Unless I read a different article to the one you did, one of us has missed something. I saw nothing saying that the new version would be censored, n fact quite the opposite, removing the gender-neutral pronouns and other such similar things.

neo-conservative "evangelicals" are the downfall of America........and liberals are even worse. One group is generally self-righteous theologically illiterate, politically obsessed, clueless and moronic. The other one is even more self righteous, more theologically illiterate, but much more open with concerns to their love for debauchery.

Independents are apathetic nancy boys with little power and Libertarians are on a wild goose chase, not knowing that the goose does not exist.

Christianity and politics of any kind do not mix. It's fine to have a political position, and to speak your mind on what you stand for and believe when it comes to politics, but for the love of all that is holy, keep Christianity out of it. Jesus does not conform to this world. He is way too beautiful and unique to be watered down and smeared with politics.

This sounds good, but in practice, what does it really mean? If someone were to pass a law
saying we couldn't worship God, then if one denounced that law on the grounds that we are
commanded to worship God, wouldn't that be bringing Christianity into politics? Would it be that we should say nothing, but go ahead and worship God? But then, don't we have an obligation to do what we can to speak out against injustice, etc.? So, if we spoke out, are we brininging Christiantiy into it? Or, would we only be speaking out from an a-religious point of view, about the right to practice faith (from a perspective that could be made from an atheist, in defense of religion)? Moreover, if we abstain from bringing Christinuty into politics, are we doing so on religious grounds? But in this case, our political views are still being guided by our faith.

And that's really the crux of the difficulty. if one has faith- then EVERYTHING one does should and will be in done in light of that faith. The view that "religion" and "politics" should remain spearate in certain respects becomes just another view that we hold on either religious or secular grounds--and either way, we are making certain assumptions about religion in the process. It may well be that for religious reasons we believe that politics should not reference expolicitly religious ideas, etc., but even then, we are bringing religion into ourt politics in nanming our reasons for why we won't bring religion into politics.

I've actually become quite interested over the years as to how to best understand the relationship between faith and politics, mucvh as with "church and state." A temptation is to appeal to something like "Natural law" to defend positions which more or less coincide with Christian morality, but without making it explicitly religious. (Though many today are naive, as FO says, to the point to where they assume NL appeals are explicitly religious0. On the other hand, it is true that NL itself makes certain religious presuppositions, when handled from the standpoint of the Christian. It refers to the relationshjip of nature and grace--one must hold that nature can be read enough, and followed, even after the Fall to know the NL, etc. A secular appeal to NL does not have this theoretical complication, as it doesn't bring the Fall into it--but if one is a Christian, he or she must consider this question. And this means, once again, that one's musings about the ground for politics involve specific beliefs about religion.

It seems to me that there really is no basis for leaving religion out of politics, in some form or other. At the same timew, it does seem that brining religion into politics tends to damage the religion. But one really cannot not do so completely, either. Maybe one can take a purely isolationist view, similar to the Amish, but it isn't clear that Christianity calls for (or necessarily even permits) that either. We may have to accept that trying to strike this balance is going to just be one of the messy things that we cannot keep completely unmessy, as long as we are in this world.

I'm an indepedent in the sense that I belong to no party, but my political beliefs are Far-right to the max. I hate the concept of political parties. It may sound crazy, but George Washington did too.

Without reading the article about the conservative bible, it sounds like a bad idea.
EDIT:I read the article, and I have somewhat changed my mind, however, I dont read a "liberal" bible, so it is a non-issue for me. What the eff is a liberal bible anyway? It would seem to me that if their is a "liberal" bible that has been translated through the lense of the 21st century, then what is needed isnt a Conservative translation, but a CORRECT translation.
