I am a type 2 diabetic, was diagnosed a few years ago and have been struggling with it. A recent issue has now become a wakeup call to me.

I discovered recently that part of my left hand is numb(the ring finger and the pinky) and at first I thought maybe I slept on it by accident but I'm not sure until my Mom called me and told me that is more than likely diabetic related after doing some research online about it

Am I scared? Yes without a doubt, I am scheduling a appointment tomorrow to get the hand examined. Could everyone please pray for me about this? I am extremely nervous about this and this issue now serves as a wakeup call for me to take better care of myself and not become a statistic to this disease. I would like to make it to age 47 next June and right now, I am very nervous about this. So if you could, please pray for me, I need your support and I would appreciate it very much, thanks

Praying dude, God will get you thru, just keep being strict with diet and exercise.., my dad got diagnosed last year, and has been have numb issues aswell.... he isnt even overweight.... trust in God and not worry, worry doesn't change anything.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the advice and support. I have conqeured my past demons w/alcohol and drug abuse. Diabetes is the toughest demon that I have been fighting with and I want to win this battle. I will have another post here about what the doctor said about my hand.

Diabetes is something to be taken seriously, and I see that you do.

Numbness can be something that will go away on it's own in days or weeks or it can be something referred to as 'Diabetic peripheral neuropathy'. That's a mouthful, but it simply means that you have numbness in the your extremities caused by decreased bloodflow as a result of the complications of diabetes.

Yes, definitely seek an MD's opinion that is well versed in diabetes mellitus. A good doctor will instill patience as they fine tune your insulin doses. The first couple of years takes a lot of 'practicing medicine' to get things right. But after that, most diabetics can expect to live a full, long life.

I'm w/ sherri, not sure how I missed this before! I'll be praying for you, Mark. My wife has Type 1 diabetic symptoms caused by a hormone imbalance, and we're working hard to keep things from developing into full-blown diabetes. It's tough, but you can soldier through it!

PRAYING! My dad has type 1 so I know the struggle a bit. Keep on keepin on man.

An update:

Been looking up some research the past few days and now thinking its either
diabetic related or possibly carpel tunnel. The answer won't be known till 10/19

Been busy keeping my mind off it so I won't get depressed about it. I hope
I can overcome this and go from there.

To say that I'm scared would be an understatement. Will have another update
soon.

Peripheral Neuropathy can be similar to carpal tunnel syndrome as they are both nerve related.

Many have received dramatic and lasting relief from both conditions.

It's okay to be scared. I know I would be when dealing with the unknown. It's okay to be depressed, it's a sign of mourning a perceived loss.

Remember, we don't know what the future holds but we know WHO holds the future. He can be trusted.

along but now I know what it is and what to do

That's good you know now so you can do the right thing and treat the issue. I'm praying for you neighbor.

an update:

sugar starting to get better and in control, got bloodwork tomorrow
to check my cholesterol, hand is still feeling numbish, I hope that
changes soon for the better, the thought of amputation scares me
so I am doing everything in my power to avoid that

Put out of your mind the 'A' word. I've seen my share of diabetic amputees. Those are people that didn't take care of themselves for decades. People that had out of control DM. People that were in denial. You are not one of them. You are young, as young as me. Commit yourself to staying on top of your sugar level, good diet, exercise, fluid intake, removing poisons from your life, good personal hygiene, etc. You are doing the right thing. I am proud of you my brother from another mother.

to call and schedule me for a follow-up, hand is still feeling the same and doing all that I can
