PostSubject: Important Announcement (RIP ExMx 2005 - 2011)   Sun Feb 13, 2011 4:48 pm

Hello everyone, this is
Broc from Eternal Mystery. I figured that since I am the only original
member of this band that I would be the one to put out this
announcement.

Eternal Mystery's last show was this past
Friday, February 11th. We played with Suspended Obscurity, Machine Made
Slave, and our new vocalist Davey's acoustic/folk project The
Jackanapes. To all who came out to see us, thank you. To those who
couldn't make it but were still supportive from wherever they were,
again, thank you.

As of January 22nd, we had to remove
Josh Cook, our vocalist for over a year, from his position in this band
due to what I will simply list as extreme attitude and pride issues that
were damaging to this band's nature. I refuse to go into any details
because I don't want to cause any more hardships than there already
are. We had a backup vocalist lined up ready for the replacement
already, and we are glad we found him. However, after long discussions
having to due with the extent of the damage done to this band's
reputation here in the local music scene, we came to the conclusion that
we could no longer, in good conscience, continue with this band. The
name, reputation, and integrity this band was supposed to represent,
have been completely destroyed and cannot be repaired.

As
of about 2 weeks ago, David (Davey) Lavergne officially replaced Josh as
the vocalist of this band. We made plans to change the name, musical
style, and lyrical content/stance of the band because, as mentioned
earlier, we did not feel comfortable continuing on with a name that was
stained as badly as Eternal Mystery. We have decided to change our name
to Oppressed, mix sludge, grindcore, death metal, and many other forms
of music to create our own unique style that we could call our own, and
no longer label ourselves a 'Christian band'. The reason why, I will
mention in the next paragraph.

We will not carry this
title simply because most of the bands carrying it do not practice what
they preach. As a matter of fact, most of the bands and venues who have
treated us the worst have been those who have carried the Christian
title. We were treated much better and with more respect by the secular
scene, even including bands and musicians who themselves held an
anti-religious/anti-Christian sentiment, than we were by almost all of
the Christian scene that we had been involved with, and that to us says a
lot. Thus, we came to the conclusion that bearing the Christian title
means absolutely nothing. Most of the bands carrying this title, except
for a small handful, do not practice what they preach and do not carry
themselves in a manner that would be considered Christian in any sense.
We find this to be completely disgusting and want no part of the
dishonesty and hypocrisy that it's come to represent. In a national
environment where calling yourself "Christian" is like the "cool and hip
thing to do", the meaning of it gets destroyed and twisted into
something grotesque.

Eternal Mystery, as of right now, is
dead. We are changing our name to Oppressed, and this is for us a
fresh, new start. If you don't want to support us simply because we
choose not to associate ourselves with the Christian music scene, then I
personally suggest that you barricade yourself in your bedroom and
listen to your Audio Adrenaline and Skillet CDs at full volume. This is
what our consciences are leading us to do. However, we do want to thank everyone who bought a CD, wrote a review, conducted an interview, or did anything in general to support us. We love you all more than you could ever know.

Razz

Sad to hear this, I was looking forward to additional material w/ the full line-up. But, life goes on. Too bad you guys can't still record under the ExMx moniker and just release stuff as you get time but do the full band thing as Oppressed. That would be sweet. But you gotta do what you gotta do, and I respect that. Hope the new band goes well and keep us updated - my guess is, I'll dig whatever you're working on Very Happy

Shoot, you're locking yourselves in your rooms with AA and Skillet music only?!

Before sharing any serious thoughts (Not that you asked for any, but I can't help but think of some things), I have to ask what this means lyrically for the band? Is dropping the title "Christian" and reforming as Oppressed something that is merely cosmetic to disassociate yourself from that part of the music scene, or is this something that will have a drastic impact on lyrical topics?

Damn straight!

I always thought your recruits into ExMx seemed kinda laid back to be playing in your radically Christian band, heh. But it's good that y'all have found a way to work things out.

And, the new musical approach you described sounds interesting. More sludgy riffs is definitely not a bad thing. What does the new vocalist sound like?
