Interesting. Not sure where I stand on this, but it makes perfect sense. I guess if a paradigm shift is needed, however, what is the shift towards more specifically? I would ask this lecturer that question, because what he's saying makes sense, but where do we go from here?

That was BRILLIANT!
And the animations made it SOOOO much easier to understand.

FRO: That is a very good point. I assume that he would want to move towards a grouping of children by ability not age, ask for more collaboration among students, the abolition of standardized tests, make learning more fun, etc. I myself learn bettter talking amongst peers in college and having to argue out my points then I ever would have in high school. I thank God everyday that I was homeschooled. A lot of the kids I meet in college are all older than me, but lack some of the most basic skills that school is supposed to teach you. Example: Hitler and his Holocaust is being downplayed, World War II isn't really cared about, the Civil War is considered to be all about slavery, etc. etc. Some of the kids I've met in College just blow my mind with how stupid they are.

I will say this: He makes it all simple and easy to understand haha.

He makes the points about education being designed in the industrial age..... I think what he's talking about, with some of the points he's mentioned, is:

- not schooling kids by "batch" a.k.a. age.... School them by how well they do.

- Some kids do well in small groups, some large groups, some individually...

- integrate more "divergent thinking" into the learning process

This is actually well on its way in colleges. People aren't categorized by "date of manufacture". If you qualify for the class via testing, you can take the class. Depending on the classes, divergent thinking is accepted when I went to college. Science and arts subjects come to mind. (Math and History, not so much.)
