I love to read and am somewhat of a "book nerd." So, I'm curious, what are you reading right now? What would you recommend? What kind of stuff do you like to read? Or, do you despise the very idea of reading?

Right now, I'm reading A Persistent Peace: One Man's Struggle for a Nonviolent World by John Dear, S. J. It's an autobiography and is a very good read -- challenging, inspiring, and, at times, controversial. I also really enjoy books on history (especially of the Church), theology, philosophy and ethics. And, I have always loved fantasy ... not so much science fiction though, but that's just me.

So, feel free to toss in your two cents worth.

I like to read books, but I rarely do because I can't make it through more than a couple of pages without falling asleep.

The hardback edition is $29.95, and I try to buy all of my books in hardback. So, you can see the problem. That price is equivalent to 3 CD's plus shipping from DMD!

Ah, yes, $30 isn't nothing.
Hmmm, it's very difficult to say if it's worth the price, I can only say that I enjoyed it, it's not the next LOTR or Narnia, but there were times I was impressed. It reminded me a lot about both books btw.

I have to say my favorite book ever is A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken. If you like C.S. Lewis and really deep stuff check it out.

Blue Like Jazz is my other favorite.

It can be hard to find but it is completely worth it!

I've been reading C.S. Lewis as of late myself. Right now I'm reading the last book of the space triogy series called "That hideous strength."

I'm a book nerd too! I literally always have a book to read.

Right now I'm reading "The Halfling's Gem" by R. A. Salvatore, the third book in the Icewind Dale Trilogy. I am a huge fantasy nut.

I'm also reading "Blue Like Jazz". It's a fantastic book!

right now i'm reading many books at once. Mostly for school like "Issues in Media", some workbook for video editing programs, televison production book....and I am currently reading "Son Of Witch" (sequel to Wicked) for enjoyment. I really love Gregory Maguire's stuff.

well....i work for scholastic bookfairs, so i'm reading a new children's book every day hahahaha...

Yes, Gorlim, you should definitely read "Blue Like Jazz". It's a great book. And it's not really actually about jazz

I find myself not too big a reader of works of fiction, but voracious on books dealing with history (especially of the Church), theology, philosophy and ethics aswell .

I can think up a title right away that would be up your alley that covers all the above. A great read, but quite controversial is "pagan Cristianity?" by Frank Viola and Geoge Barna that first came out in 2002. It looks at a lot of common day practices that believers do in church and looks at their historicity and how they mimic paganism more than the New Testament practices. It will anger you, entertain you, educate you, and perhaps even create a paradigm shift in your life. I guarantee you have probably never read a book like this ( as I had never in all my years of reading Church history), as their research brings forth a lot of startling realities of the origin of practices such as the order of worship, sermons, baptisms and the Lord's Supper and much, much more. Tons of research went into this book evidenced by the extensive footnotes. I would recommend this book to all who enjoy reading books on history and how those past events still impact us today.

I've been reading a lot of books by Charles Stross........and just got done reading 1984 by Orwell......only because I never did read it when I was in high school.
