| I watched this short documentary last night about how Christians should react to mass-produced meat and the animal abuse caused by many of the "farmers" that run the places we get our meat from. It really did make me start to question whether we should be supporting these businesses, and why Christians don't speak out against the awful treatment of God's creation. I am certainly not against eating meat, but I am concerned with the way most of the meat we consume is obtained. What are your guys' stances on this? Here's the link to the video: http://video.hsus.org/?fr_story=fddfc1d63c358bb2db36b53597ceeb7b724f5771&rf=sitemapAnd I know what all of you are thinking, that it will just show tear-jerking footage of animal abuse, but it's more just interviews with people and it's not as graphic as most of the "animal rights" videos are. |

| Taped footage of mass slaughterhouses embodies some of my most gruesome fears; more terrifying than any horror movie. As most of you know, I do not eat meat, but, if I did, I still would not buy mass-produced meat. |

| I was actually thinking about this the other day. It's been an on and off thought since I read The Jungle in high school.
For me, I think that I don't like meat, but some people do. If you're not starving, there's no reason to cause animal suffering, right? But if a person is starving, then I think human life takes priority. |

- How was the transition?
It took me several months to get used to not eating meat, and for my friends and family to grow accustomed to my new dietary preferences. Afterward, it was fine. It wasn't too long before I didn't crave meat anymore at all, which was surprising to me, because I ate so much meat every day before I changed my diet. |

| My family sources its meat from a local farmer, who does not mass produce and does it only for local people... the quality is far better and cheaper also . If you can buy meat that's from a smaller chain or farmers market... that would probably help you turn away from mass market meat.. which imho is foul and yes they treat the animals quite badly also. |

| LastFirstborn, props on your avatar Another benefit of local meat is you can be sure it's not full of preservatives and chemical additives |

| We must give the cow hugs and kisses before we slaughter it for its tasty hamburgers. Metal I would do vegetarian for a bit to improve my health, but God made us omnivorous, so don't forget. Although I am not saying we should make the animals miserable. I am sure the native americans didnt put their hunts through hell before killing them. |

That's my stance as well. What happened to being stewards over the earth and things in it? I only eat meat once a few days or so, usually not every day. At most, once a day or once every other day. I eat mostly veg, and would like to be totally veg for now, but economically at the moment, I'd probably make myself malnourished (I know that sounds like an excuse, but it's true). Anyways, I am appalled at how animals are treated in those mass-produced "farms". I admire the people in my family who grow their own animals in fields where they can run and feed free on natural things, and how they kill them quickly when they need them for food, with the least pain possible (at least as far as we know). I stand by the native American saying that one should kill not for pleasure/play but need, and use as much as they can of its "carcass". |

I am sure the native americans didnt put their hunts through hell before killing them. I remember watching something about the native Americans when they hunted. I don't remember what tribe it was exactly, but after every kill they talked to the animal. Told the animal why why killed it, what they needed it for and that they do not waste a single piece of their body. Thats all I remember. |

| I was under the impression that slaughterhouses were rather humane... well, about as humane as a killing could be. Quick and painless, after all, stress brings on adrenaline which makes all meat really tough.
Sad to say, but there are many, for lack of better words, idiots working in the food industry. There always have been, and always will be, unfortunately.
It doesn't surprise me that a few farmers would be more of a lesson than an example in slaughterhouse conduct.
....then again, I worked with a guy that swears as long as he lives he will never eat bacon bits, or Brach's candy. Coworkers spitting chewing tobacco, taking a leak in the vats, "Eh, it will take too long to get that nest of mice out of there, go ahead and start the machine up" type conduct/attitudes in regards to working with food in general.
...totally irresponsible.
I've heard worse stories as far as local restaurants as well, but I'll spare those gory details.
I'm just grateful there are measures taken, and lets hope with more knowledge (that video being one of many sources) to the general public, more action will be taken to prevent such irresponsibility.
I'm also grateful the half sleeve of chicken patties I ate a week ago didn't get me sick, even though I'm well aware some sick farmer could have applied some S&M techniques to the pre-processed product.

i don't eat alot of meat tho, and i like it that way. i can't eat beans all the time for protein. lol |

| If you don't like the abuse that animals suffer at the hands of mass slaughterhouses, go Kosher and I'm not joking when I say this. Kosher meat is 100% safer, cleaner and healthier than any other meat you'll ever buy, because there is no blood, disease or lame animals put in kosher meat. You can't get that at a grocery chain, cub or rainbow foods in the US and you never will. |

| Aside from the morality of it.. the mass slaughter houses are producing beef and poultry that is extremely unhealthy incomparison to grass fed free range slaughtered animals.. that do not get injected with antibiotics and fed plastics, genetically modified industrialized corn and other crap.
It is American Capitalism, perfectly portrayed. |
