PostSubject: Need advice on amp hum   Need advice on amp hum Icon_minitime1Sun Jan 10, 2010 2:53 pm

I have tried everything i know to do but my amp isnt as quiet as i would like it to be still, i have all my cords wraped in allumanum foil and my noise suppressor going first in line straight from my amp...it has helpped alot but when i turn up the voulme it still noisy...any tips would be great. I have a marshall 1/2 stack. When it is on clean it is quite no matter how loud i have it , its just the gain channel that hums.

I have an Epi as well. It's a Special II. I never use it though. I use an Ibanez. I don't really like it, the bridge on the epi always dug into my hand when ever I palm muted, so I have to stick with the ibanez

I found this, as a technical solution, but I would try everything else before attempting this.

Also, maybe there is a problem with the internal wiring of your guitar.

Is your amp properly grounded?

Hey MetalCps!!!!

I would look into this two ways.

1.) Buy a good noisse gate allowing you to play all you want; however, the pedal will cut out all sound after a specific amount of time, depending on what you want! I love it and for the music that I play, I need it!

2.) Would be to cut down the gain on your amp, as well as turn down the volume pot on your guitar. I had this same problem with my B-52 head.

well if it is that, then what I suggest, is moving the pedals around the board and interchanging to see which makes the most noise.

After that, find out which connector between each pedal makes noise.

One thing about pedal boards is that you cannot be cheap with those short pedal cables, even the power unit for it, or the conditioner. Also think about buying a stronger amp to speaker cable.

Another one though way out in left field is look at the frequencies you are pushing. Maybe you can roll out some of that annoying white noise.

Oh and another one is, though it may also be spendy is think about investing in better pots and accessories for each pedal. It can and will affect each and every pedal you use.

If that does not help, then it is time to have your guitar and then the amp looked at.
