| ( and no, I'm not referring to self confidence )
Pride, is it the most dangerous Sin..as many Orthodox doctrines tell us?
I would say that these doctrines are correct, what say you?

| It is really dangerous because it can lead to a whole other world of sin. |

| I think pride in any context.. is just plain destructive at times... it puts unrealistic expectations on yourself and others.. it hurts people... it causes unnecessary harm.... etc.
Thus why it is important to not have too much of it.
A little pride is ok, as in looking after yourself and your house etc.. but not to a unhealthy level. |

| That is not the Pride this thread is about.
English is horrible to describe ceratin concepts.. beause we have only one word for what in other langauges have many. Pride and Love, etc and so forth.
So let's call it Self Conceit or Self Centered or "Fill in the blank " |

| It's impossible to be completely non-selfish. There are self-centered ulterior motives behind even the most good and compassionate choices. |

Fallen Human nature. We are not fully Human.. we are lesser Humans, born under the Curse. |

| Self centered... well a small amount is ok.. so you know who you are and what you want.. so you can protect yourself and be wise about things you let "self" attain etc etc.
If your motivations are purely so you can feel good about how awesome you are and what you can get back.. well thats kinda shitty.. but we all do it at some time or don't realise it.
When Self Centered nature is the dominant trait, it mainly will serve that person at expense of others to get what they want, no matter what... not watching the signs and nuances of others that help avoid it becoming too much of a problem.
If you are born again etc.. you no longer consider yourself a self centered and fallen, as you are new.. now a co heir with Christ.. thus not fallen. |

| I seen this on a church sign before.
E.G.O. - Edging God Out
Very true. I'm a firm believer that pride comes before the fall. Not only that, but when I have a "It's ok God, I've got this" or "I don't need Your help" attitude, I'm NOT happy, and quite miserable and easily knocked off my square.
I do have to be self-ish to a certain degree, for preservation purposes. My self-centered-ness, fueled by a hundred forms of fear, is definitely the root of every problem I've had. |

| I am trying to get into the army special forces. I am not going to get in by being a pussy. I have to have some self respect in the very least. That said, to be part of the SF, you have to have to be a team player to overcome challenges. |

| Everyone is selfish to some extent, but I think irrational selfishness is the root of all evil. |

I feel that Pride played a big part in Eve's taking the fruit. The whole: "I can handle what this teaches me/what God does to me" idea. |
